Imagine a world where nurses, teachers, waste collectors and all essential workers are properly valued. A world where our public services are protected and everyone’s needs are met. A world which can sustain us well into the future. That world is possible.
If individuals and organisations from across society stand together, we can demand that the government builds an economy that benefits everyone, not just big businesses. It won’t be easy, but if ever there was a moment to try something new, this is it.
We’ve already seen what can be achieved when we support each other during this crisis, from doctors coming out of retirement to care for coronavirus patients, to people picking up prescriptions for their neighbours.
Now we need to channel that community spirit into rebuilding our society for the better, by urging the government to provide a new deal that puts people, not profits, first.
We might not be able to take to the streets right now, but we can still make our voices heard. Drop a pin outside the Houses of Parliament and let the government know that we need to build back better.
Next week politicians return to parliament where they will start deciding how we recover from this crisis.
They could reboot business as usual and further devastating austerity. Or they could invest in people’s needs, vital public services and a Green New Deal. Let’s make sure it’s the latter. Let’s make sure our elected politicians hear our cry that normal wasn’t working.
Will you email your MP asking them to commit the government to building back better?
Over the next two months we’ll be running online video calls about our campaign to #BuildBackBetter where we’ll be:

Nurses have been there for us all throughout this crisis. But, the pandemic has pushed them to their limits, and has underlined what nurses already know: that they have not been valued or invested in enough.
We need a new deal for our public services. The only recovery that will work is one that builds back better, for nurses, for our NHS, and for our planet.
